Background
In the Run and Debug console, class names are highlighted as clickable hyperlinks with a dotted underline. Changing Settings | Editor | Color Scheme | General | Hyperlink does not alter that style, even after an IDE restart.
The highlight is rendered by an internal ClassFinderFilter that scans console output for class names and applies its own hard-coded text attributes (dotted line, inactive-text color). It is independent of the Hyperlink color-scheme entry.
Question
How to remove or change the dotted underline applied to class names in the IntelliJ IDEA console?
Answer
Option 1 — Disable class-name highlighting in the console
Available in all supported versions.
- Open Settings | Advanced Settings.
- Under JVM Languages, disable Process terminal output to find class names and highlight them.
- Click OK.
New console output is rendered without the highlight. No restart required.
Option 2 — Configure the style (IntelliJ IDEA 2024.1 and later)
Starting with IntelliJ IDEA 2024.1, the highlight style applied by ClassFinderFilter is configurable.
The option is under File | Settings | Editor | Color Scheme | JVM Logging.
