Embedded browser does not work

Problem

Cannot open .MD or HTML file in "Preview" mode

Cause

The embedded browser is based on the Chromium engine, that is prone to cache issues

Solution

Clean up the embedded browser caches

To remove jcef_cache, fully quit the IDE first (and Toolbox, if used), then delete the cache folder for your IDE and version:

• macOS rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/JetBrains/<IDE><Version>/jcef_cache Example: rm -rf ~/Library/Caches/JetBrains/IntelliJIdea2026.1/jcef_cache

• Linux (classic install) rm -rf ~/.cache/JetBrains/<IDE><Version>/jcef_cache Example: rm -rf ~/.cache/JetBrains/IntelliJIdea2026.1/jcef_cache

• Windows Delete the folder in Explorer or PowerShell: %LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\<IDE><Version>\jcef_cache Example (PowerShell): Remove-Item "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\JetBrains\IntelliJIdea2026.1\jcef_cache" -Recurse -Force

As in 2026.1.2, there are no known issues that cause in-IDE embedded browser cache corruption. If you still have problems, please file a new issue to JetBrains tracker.
