All the levels/nodes are automatically collapsed, if the whole project is collapsed in Project View

Problem

When working with some files, and the project is collapsed by accident, if I expand the project in project view, all the subfolders/subnodes will be collapsed. It's hard to find the location of opened files again.

Cause

This is caused by the settings of IntelliJ IDEs. The option "When collapsing a node, also collapse all expanded nodes under it" is enabled by default.

Solution

1. Go to Settings | Advanced Settings.
2. Search "collapse".
3. Uncheck "When collapsing a node, also collapse all expanded nodes under it"

Note

After unchecking this option, all the expanded subnodes will not be collapsed automatically. If you want to collapse them all at once, click the button "Collapse All" in the Project View.
