Enable plugins per project basis

Problem

Plugins like AI need to be enabled only for specific projects due to safety concerns. Currently, this functionality is unavailable in IntelliJ IDEs

Resolution

To work around the limitation, use multiple IDE installations as described below:

  1. Install JetBrains Toolbox.
  2. In the Toolbox app, click on ⋮ next to the IDE name and select Install an unmanaged instance. toolbox-install-unmanaged-instance.png
  3. Ensure that Settings Sync is disabled on more than one instance to prevent plugin configurations from being synchronized across installations. backup-and-sync-setting.png

Ongoing Feature Request

There is an existing feature request to add this functionality: IJPL-6073 Allow to enable/disable plugins per project. Upvote the request to receive updates and increase its priority.
