Problem
Cannot uninstall the IDE. Clicked the uninstall menu but got no response.
Workaround
Please ensure that the IDE is not running when you attempt to uninstall it. If the problem persists, you may need to check for any processes related to the IDE in the Task Manager (Windows) or Activity Monitor (macOS) and end them before trying to uninstall again.
Make sure to replace the <IDE> with the name of the IDE and <version> with the actual version number of your IDE installation.
To uninstall the IDE, please follow these steps based on your operating system:
For macOS:
- Delete the IDE application from the /Applications directory.
- Remove the IDE configuration and system directories located at
~/Library/Application Support/JetBrains/<IDE><version>and~/Library/Caches/JetBrains/IDE<version>.
For Windows:
- Open the Apps & Features section in the Windows Settings dialog.
- Select the IDE app and click Uninstall.
- If the uninstaller does not start, you can manually run
Uninstall.exefrom the installation directory under/bin. - After uninstalling, remove the configuration and system directories located at
%APPDATA%\JetBrains\<IDE><version>and%LOCALAPPDATA%\JetBrains\<IDE><version>.
For Linux:
- If you installed the IDE as a snap package, use the command
sudo snap remove <package name>orsudo snap remove <package name>in the terminal. For example, sudo snap remove intellij-idea-ultimate. - If you installed it using a tarball, simply delete the installation directory and the configuration directories located at
~/.config/JetBrains/<IDE><version>,~/.cache/JetBrains/<IDE><version>, and~/.local/share/JetBrains/<IDE><version>.
If you encounter any issues during the uninstallation process, such as the uninstaller not responding or not being able to select the software, you may need to try removing the installation, system and configuration directories manually.
