Problem
When IntelliJ IDE is started, a prompt is shown requesting access to the JB_AI_PLATFORM_TOKEN which is stored in the user's native credentials keychain.
IntelliJ IDEA wants to use your confidential information stored in “IntelliJ Platform LLM - JB_AI_PLATFORM_TOKEN” in your keychain.
Cause
AI Assistant plugin uses the credentials token to store the user's credential information for authenticating to the JB AI service platform. If the information is not stored, the user would have to authenticate to JB AI platform on each IDE start. User's credentials can be stored in two keychains:
- OS native keychain If the credentials are stored in the native keychain, IDE asks the user for the password to the keychain. Given access will strictly be used locally by AI Assistant (IDE). It will not be shared with LLM providers or any other third party.
- IDE embedded keychain (default KeePass keychain provided in the IDE installation) If the credentials are stored in the IDE embedded keychain - IDE has access to it by default.
Resolution
There are two options:
- Provide the OS native keychain password to the IDE (e.g. for macOS), and it will be used to store and fetch the credentials automatically
- In Settings (
⌘ + ,orCtrl + Alt + S) > Appearance & Behavior > System Settings > Passwords > select the In KeePass option. In this case IDE will not require any password to be provided by the user – since the default (embedded) keychain will be used.
Note: For Linux, see Linux: AI Assistant logs out and requires password from keyring - An application wants access to the keyring "Default" but it is locked
