Problem
When attempting to build a project in IntelliJ IDEA with a Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) development environment, the following error occurs:
Failed to copy parameter -Djps.kotlin.home=
Cause
This issue may stem from permission constraints within the WSL environment where IntelliJ IDEA operates.
Resolution
The error is fixed in IntelliJ IDEA 2025.2 (WSL. Build error after creation the new project: Failed to copy parameter -Djps.kotlin.home=). If it still appears in your version, check the permissions:
- Check the log for "permissions denied" or
AccessDeniedExceptionaccessing~/.cache/JetBrains/ - Adjust permissions in WSL for the affected IntelliJ IDEA directories. In the terminal, execute the following:
sudo chmod -R 777 ~/.cache/JetBrains/IntelliJIdea2025.2
- Restart IntelliJ IDEA and attempt the operation again.
