Can't open projects from the 'File | Recent Projects' menu

Problem

1. Go to “Recent Projects” in the “File” menu and open a recent project.
2. Try to do it a second time -> nothing happens. Project is not opening. The only solution is to kill the IDE and start it again.

Cause

Probable cause is corrupted project configuration.

Resolution

• Close the current project via File | Close Project and select another project on the Welcome screen

• Invoke the Find Action dialog with Ctrl+Shift+A (or Shift-Shift -> Actions tab), type "recent" there and select the "Open Recent Project" option

• Re-generate configuration settings for the affected project:
  1. Close the IDE, go to the project directory, backup and delete the entire .idea folder and any .iml files from its root
  2. In the IDE, go to File | New | Project from existing sources, select the project's source (root directory or main build file)
  3. Wait for indexing to finish

• Reset IDE settings to defaults (a backup copy will be created in the process): File | Manage IDE Settings | Restore Default Settings
