Cannot type special characters in terminal

Problem

Users are unable to type special characters such as |, @, and others in the terminal interface in IntelliJ IDEA.

Cause

This issue is caused by the Use Option as Meta key setting being enabled in the IDE, which conflicts with the input method for special characters.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

1. Open IntelliJ IDEA.
2. Navigate to Settings | Tools | Terminal.
3. Locate and uncheck the option Use Option as Meta key.
4. Confirm the changes and verify if special characters can now be typed in the terminal.
