IDE gets stuck while opening projects on macOS, and system process fileproviderd is using a lot of CPU

Problem

The IDE gets stuck while opening projects—probably because the project is stored in a folder managed by a tool like OneDrive, iCloud, etc.—and the thread dump shows it is hanging while reading certain files. In Activity Monitor, fileproviderd system process used a lot of CPU.

Cause

On macOS, fileproviderd is a system process that manages cloud-based file providers. It may become unresponsive and consume a lot of CPU or memory due to certain issues.

Resolution

Killing the fileproviderd process or restarting the system to resolve the problem.
