Cause
This issue typically occurs when the IDE is launched using a custom Java Runtime Environment instead of the recommended JetBrains Runtime (JBR). Using an unsupported or incompatible Java version can lead to various runtime errors and instability.
Resolution
To reset the runtime used to start the IDE to the default JetBrains Runtime bundled with the IDE, perform the following steps:
- Make sure the IDE is closed and the IDE process is not running.
- Delete the
idea.jdkfile from your IDE configuration directory. - Restart your IDE to confirm it launches correctly.
To set a specific JDK version for your projects, follow the steps described in this article.
