Problem
There is a powerful remote server that could be used for remote development, but the remote development mode doesn't work when two users are connecting to the same project.
Reason
The collaborative scenario when multiple users are working on a shared project is not supported.
Resolution
It’s possible to use one remote machine by multiple users at the same time, but such a setup must meet the following requirements (while still being an unsupported configuration according to system requirements):
- Each user must have a separate user account on the server. That means each person is using a separate Linux user for SSH connection.
- Each user has their own project copy (usually, it comes as a Git repository) isolated inside their userspace on the server.
- Each user has their own IDE installation on the server inside their home directory.
- The server has enough resources to handle multiple IDE backends opened. Please check the system requirements and scale them according to the number of users.
The above is a possible, but not a desirable configuration. Please consider sharing the server using virtualization software to provide every developer with an isolated VM.
