Problem
Sometimes, when there is no direct access to DockerHub or other external sources for Docker images, the dev container build process could be interrupted. To avoid this, the necessary images could be pulled in advance from external sources and placed in the Docker local image storage.
Examples of possible relevant errors:
Status 500: Status 500: Access to docker.io has been restricted by your administrators. To access this registry, ask your administrators to add it to your organization's allowed registries.
Status 407: Pull failed due to an unauthenticated request. Registry Access Management is enabled, which requires pulls to be authenticated. Please run `docker login`, or contact your administrators if this is unexpected.
Error response from daemon: Status 407: Please run 'docker login'
Resolution
The following images are necessary to be available on the Docker instance where the dev containers are built:
alpine/git, which is necessary for the scenarios when the repository is cloned (From VCS Project option);jetbrains/devcontainers-helper:20231115image necessary for various tasks (for example, downloading the IDE backend if it is not presented locally);- the image used in the dev container configuration (specified in
devcontainer.json,docker-compose.ymlorDockerfile).
