Question
How to instruct the IDE to install the plugin inside the dev container automatically?
Answer
Adding the following customization block to the devcontainer.json allows the IDE backend to install these plugins in advance.
"customizations": {
"jetbrains": {
"plugins": [
"pluginID1",
"pluginID2",
...
]
}
}
PluginID here is the plugin ID that you can find at the bottom of the plugin's Marketplace page:
Important to know
Please note that some of the IDE plugins should be installed in both Host (IDE backend) and Client (Client opened on the local PC). The settings in the devcontainer.json allow installing plugins on the Host (IDE backend) only.
You can also check the Where should the plugin be installed — in the client or on the host for remote development? article to better understand where exactly the plugins in the Remote Development should be installed.
