Problem
I see a "No Connection" message from time to time that resolves only after I close the JetBrains Client and reconnect to the project.
Cause
Usually, this happens if the IDE backend was unexpectedly terminated. There are two main reasons for this:
- The remote IDE has crashed.
- The IDE process has been terminated by the Linux kernel due to the lack of RAM.
Resolution
To troubleshoot such issues: 1. Check the backend IDE logs for ungraceful shutdowns. When the IDE stops gracefully, the log contains an "IDE SHUTDOWN" record about this event:
2026-03-31 12:48:56,803 [ 55838] INFO - #c.i.p.i.b.AppStarter - ------------------------------------------------------ IDE SHUTDOWN ------------------------------------------------------
2026-04-21 16:23:56,397 [ 4] INFO - #c.i.p.i.b.AppStarter - ------------------------------------------------------ IDE STARTED ------------------------------------------------------
If you see only "IDE STARTED" without the "IDE SHUTDOWN" record, this means that the IDE process has crashed or was killed ungracefully.
2. Check for JVM crash logs (java_error_in*.log or jbr_err*.log). They are usually automatically saved to the home directory in case of a crash. Please don't hesitate to report such cases to support.
3. Check your servers' kernel log for killed processes: sudo dmesg -T | grep -i "killed process". You may see something like: Out of memory: Killed process 533631 (remote-dev-server). Freeing or adding more RAM might resolve the issue. If it doesn't help, please contact us, attach logs, and a memory snapshot to your report.
