Problem
When indexing a project, the backend IDE shows a "Host unresponsive" message, and any interactions are ignored.
Cause
By default, threads dedicated to indexing are counted as the number of total CPU threads minus one. So, on a 16-thread CPU (threads provided by Hyper Threading technology also count), 15 threads will be available for the indexing process. In some cases, with complex projects, this may lead to the remote IDE unresponsiveness.
Resolution
- When connected to the remote IDE and no scanning/indexing process is running, open Help | Edit Custom VM Options (On Host).
- Limit the number of threads dedicated to scanning and indexing activities by adding the following options:
-Dcaches.indexerThreadsCount=XX
-Dcaches.scanningThreadsCount=XX
…where XX is the number of desired threads. Keep both values in match, but limit it to the total number of threads minus two. For example, set 14 for a 16-thread CPU. 4. After you have set the values, restart the backend IDE.
