How to keep local IDE window opened when starting dev container

Background

Since 2025.1, when opening the IDE in a dev container, the local IDE window becomes inactive. It is a new feature.

How to keep the local IDE window open when starting the IDE inside the dev container?

Answer

Perform the following steps:

• Open Search Everywhere (double-Shift);
• search for registry and select the Registry... option:

• in the opened window, search for devcontainers;
• disable the devcontainers.hide.project.window.on.client.start option:

The changes are applied immediately.
