Problem
The home directory has only a little space, which isn't enough to fit an entire IDE backend, or the user doesn't have write permissions.
Resolution
The main disk space-occupying item is the backend IDE itself. It's possible to select a custom IDE location (Other options -> Customize install path). More details in the manual (step 4): https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/remote-development-a.html#launch_gateway
In addition, it's possible to change the directories used by the backend IDE in the same way, as it could be done for a local installation: https://www.jetbrains.com/help/idea/directories-used-by-the-ide-to-store-settings-caches-plugins-and-logs.html#change-ide-dirs
However, this may not be enough for some cases. As an alternative to all the above, it's possible to create a symlink for:
~/.cache/JetBrains
~/.config/JetBrains
to some other place. Please be aware of the following:
- network-attached storage is not supported;
- using
/tmpas a target location is not supported; - verify that the user has enough permissions to read from and write to a new location.
