Question
The JetBrains Toolbox App installer reports an access-denied error. The message points to a file under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\JetBrains\Toolbox\bin.tmp, for example:
Access to the path "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\JetBrains\Toolbox\bin.tmp\7z.exe" was denied.
How to resolve this problem?
Cause
The installer cannot write to or execute files in its temporary extraction directory. Common causes:
- some other app use this directory at the same time;
- antivirus or endpoint-security software blocking execution, or by restricted permissions on the target directory.
Answer
- Download and run the latest installer from the JetBrains Toolbox App page. Recent versions report this condition more clearly and offer a retry option.
- Run the installer again — the error is often resolved after a second try if the reason was that another app temporarily holds the directory.
- Try running the installer as Administrator.
- If the error persists, check your antivirus and other security software to see if it blocks the installation. Add an exception for the installer or temporarily disable it during installation.
Note: In corporate environments, steps 3 and 4 may require your system administrator’s attention.
If none of the above helps, please contact support and attach a screenshot of the problem to your request.
