Background/Situation
The 16th of September 2024 Xcode 16 has been released. After the upgrade and using the iOS 18 version, Xamarin app stops working with the error like below:
Microsoft.Common.CurrentVersion.targets(1259, 5): [MSB3644] The reference assemblies for Xamarin.iOS,Version=v1.0 were not found. To resolve this, install the Developer Pack (SDK/Targeting Pack) for this framework version or retarget your application. You can download .NET Framework Developer Packs at https://aka.ms/msbuild/developerpacks
Question
Does iOS 18 support Xamarin?
Answer
As per the MicroSoft's statement, iOS 18 does not support the Xamarin:
Xamarin support will end on May 1, 2024, Xcode 15 SDKs (iOS and iPadOS 17, macOS 14) will be the final versions Xamarin will target from existing Xamarin SDKs (i.e. no new APIs are planned). It's recommended that you upgrade your Xamarin app to .NET MAUI. Please see Xamarin official support policy | .NET (microsoft.com)
