Problem
Shortly after launching Rider an "A Critical Failure Has Occurred" window appears:
The backend.{TimeStamp}.{pid}.err log file contains this:
/Path/To/RiderInstallDir/lib/ReSharperHost/linux-x64/Rider.Backend --runtimeconfig /Path/To/RiderInstallDir/lib/ReSharperHost/Rider.Backend.netcore.runtimeconfig.json --Port=44667 --enablecpp
No usable version of libssl was found
Cause
It indicates the machine is missing the necessary libssl library that the .NET runtime relies on. One known occasion happened on Fedora 45.
This distribution ships libssl v4. This can be verified via openssl --version command invoked in the terminal.
On Fedora 45 it outputs: OpenSSL 4.0.2 25 Aug 2026 (Library: OpenSSL 4.0.2 25 Aug 2026)
However, when the .Net 10 was released, the latest libssl it relied on was v3. So, out of the box .Net 10 isn't supposed to link against v4.
Resolution
The recommended solution is to install v3 binaries of the libssl. On Fedora, run sudo dnf install openssl3-libs. Once it is done, the issue should get resolved. Launch Rider and see how it goes.
In case this issue happens on other Linux distributions, the installation command and the package name might differ. Search for a suitable package in official packages repositories or contact support for help.
