Problem
The "Critical Error has occurred" message shows up on launching Rider. The backend.{TimeStamp}.{pid}.err log file contains this:
/Applications/Rider.app/Contents/lib/ReSharperHost/macos-arm64/Rider.Backend --runtimeconfig /Applications/Rider.app/Contents/lib/ReSharperHost/Rider.Backend.netcore.runtimeconfig.json --Port=51908 --enablecpp
Process terminated. Failed to load app-local ICU: libicuuc.1.dylib
Cause
It is probably caused by globalization settings set in the environment.
Resolution
Check the profile file and ensure it defines no following entries. If there is such, remove these entries and re-login. Ensure the env (invoked from terminal) output doesn't contain such variables:
export DOTNET_SYSTEM_GLOBALIZATION_INVARIANT=false
export DOTNET_SYSTEM_GLOBALIZATION_APPLOCALICU=1
export LDFLAGS="-L/opt/homebrew/opt/icu4c/lib"
export CPPFLAGS="-I/opt/homebrew/opt/icu4c/include"
