How to update the JetBrains ETW Host Service

Problem

A critical update notification from the JetBrains ETW Host Service Updater appears as an overlay on top of active applications.

Cause

The ETW Host Service is a standalone component used for profiling and event tracing. When a new critical update is released, the updater service triggers a mandatory notification to ensure that the ETW service installed on the system received the latest security updates.

Resolution

The service can be updated using the system tray or by a manual installation.

Method 1: Update via the Windows System Tray

1. Locate the JetBrains ETW Host Service Updater icon in the Windows system tray (near the system clock).

2. Right-click the icon.

3. Select Download and install update from the context menu.

   

4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.

Method 2: Manual Update Installation

1. Open the JetBrains ETW Host Service download page.
2. Download the installer package.
3. Run the installer and follow the setup wizard to overwrite the existing service.
