dotUltimate installation: Discovering product gallery failed

Problem

The installation of JetBrains dotUltimate from web installer fails, and the offline installer shows Nothing to install.

The logs indicate deserialization issues and "no products" being available.

Cause

The issue occurred because the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\folder is corrupted, leading to deserialization failures and preventing the installer from functioning correctly.

Resolution

Replace the corrupt C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ folder with a working version:

  1. Locate a backup of the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ folder (if available).

  2. Restore the backup to the C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\ directory.

Also, ensure that the registry keys for strong-name bypass are properly configured. Verify that the AllowStrongNameBypass value is set to 1 in the following registry keys:

  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework
