TeamCity.Node plugin's Node.js NPM build runner fails with `FATAL ERROR: Reached heap limit Allocation failed - JavaScript heap out of memory`

Symptoms

TeamCity.Node is a third-party plugin and is not maintained or supported by JetBrains.

TeamCity.Node plugin's Node.js NPM build runner fails with the following error:

FATAL ERROR: Reached heap limit Allocation failed - JavaScript heap out of memory

Cause

Out-of-memory error related to the memory allocated to Node.js.

Resolution

Add the env.NODE_OPTIONS environment variable with the value --max-old-space-size=SIZE(in MiB) to the project.

Alternatively, add the NODE_OPTIONS environment variable with the same value to the build agent machine.
