What's the difference between Junie and JetBrains AI Assistant?

JetBrains AI Assistant and Junie are both part of JetBrains AI. They share one subscription and draw from the same quota (AI credits — see JetBrains AI Cloud Quota Limits).

They serve different purposes:

• JetBrains AI Assistant is the plugin that integrates AI features into JetBrains IDEs. It provides AI Chat, code completion, coding agents, MCP tools, commit message generation, and other AI-powered functionality. In AI Chat, different agents can be selected for a task, including Junie, Claude, Codex, and GitHub Copilot.
• Junie is JetBrains’ coding agent. It can be used in several ways:
  • As a standalone plugin inside a JetBrains IDE
  • From the terminal or outside the IDE with Junie CLI
  • As an agent inside AI Chat in the AI Assistant plugin
