ReSharper installer shows a blank window or fails with error CS1703
Problem
The ReSharper installer shows a blank white window instead of the "Select tools to install" page.
Or the installer fails with this error:
error CS1703: An assembly with the same identity 'mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' has already been imported. Try removing one of the duplicate references.
Cause
The folder with the installer also contains other libraries, for example DirectX libraries or an mscorlib.dll assembly. These libraries conflict with the installer.
Resolution
- Create a new empty folder.
- Move the installer file to this folder.
- Run the installer again.
ReSharper installer fails: The v4.0.30319 runtime failed to provide the ICorRuntimeHost interface
Problem
The ReSharper installer does not start and shows this error:
There were problems loading the Common Language Runtime through v4 interfaces.
The v.4.0.30319.0 runtime failed to provide the ICorRuntimeHost interface.
Cause
A copy of the .NET Framework runtime folder exists next to the original one, for example v4.0.30319 - Copy. For details, see RSRP-466442.
Resolution
Remove the duplicate runtime folder
- Open
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework. - Find a copy of the
v4.0.30319folder, for examplev4.0.30319 - Copy. - Delete the copy.
- Repeat steps 1-3 for
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64. - Run the installer again.
Run the platform installer directly
If there is no duplicate runtime folder, do these steps:
- Run the installer and close it when the error appears.
- Open
%TEMP%\JetBrains\Installer.Packed\v<version>\ProductContentCache. - Run
JetBrains.Platform.Installer.exefrom this folder.
ReSharper installer fails: Strong name validation failed
Problem
The ReSharper installer fails. The installation log contains an error like this:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.CodeAnalysis.CSharp, Version=42.42.42.42, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. Strong name validation failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8013141A)
Cause
Strong-name bypass is turned off in the .NET Framework registry settings: the AllowStrongNameBypass value is 0. Security policies such as STIG can set this value. For details, see RSRP-473011.
Resolution
Changing this value can conflict with the company security policy. Get approval from the system administrator first.
- Open the Registry Editor (
regedit.exe) as an administrator. - Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework. - Set
AllowStrongNameBypassto1. - Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework. - Set
AllowStrongNameBypassto1. - Run the installer again.
ReSharper installer fails: An attempt was made to load an assembly from a network location
Problem
The ReSharper installer fails with an error like this:
Error deserializing the input artifact value of type "JetBrains.Application.BuildScript.InputPackage, JetBrains.Platform.Shell, Version=106.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=1010a0d8d6380325". Could not load file or assembly 'file:///...JetBrains.Platform.Shell.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)
An attempt was made to load an assembly from a network location which would have caused the assembly to be sandboxed in previous versions of the .NET Framework. This release of the .NET Framework does not enable CAS policy by default, so this load may be dangerous. If this load is not intended to sandbox the assembly, please enable the loadFromRemoteSources switch.
Cause
The .NET Framework treats the installer files as files from a network location and does not load them.
Resolution
Turn on the loadFromRemoteSources switch for the installer:
- In the folder with the installer, create a text file with the installer file name plus
.config. For example, forJetBrains.dotUltimate.<version>.exe, the name isJetBrains.dotUltimate.<version>.exe.config. -
Paste this content into the file:
<configuration> <runtime> <loadFromRemoteSources enabled="true"/> </runtime> </configuration> - Save the file.
- Run the installer again.
