Situation
Antivirus Software claims that one of the Rider/ReSharper/dotTools files is a potential virus.
Question
What to do if an antivirus program reports a file as a potential virus or trojan?
Answer
Verify the build file's SHA-256 checksum to confirm you have the right one.
-
Get the SHA-256 checksum file by appending
.sha256to the build download link for your IDE version. For example, for Rider 2024.3.3 the link is:
https://download.jetbrains.com/rider/JetBrains.Rider-2024.3.3.exe.sha256For ReSharper, the link looks like this:
https://download.jetbrains.com/resharper/dotUltimate.2025.2.3/JetBrains.ReSharper.2025.2.3.web.exe.sha256 -
Use a checksum utility to compare the SHA-256 hash of the downloaded file with the provided checksum.
-
If the file's checksum matches, the file is safe to use.
-
Report the false positive directly to the antivirus software provider. This issue is on the antivirus software's side and needs to be resolved by them.
For further information, refer to the JetBrains Rider Download Page to download files and checksums directly. The same is applying for other IDEs.
