Problem
What do these grayed out categories mean in Rider breakpoints setting?
Resolution
These are breakpoints under different exception types. Each category maps to the corresponding exception type in the left-side panel.
If you have different types of breakpoints set in the current project, you can set the dependency between them.
Consider we have the following sample program:
namespace ConsoleApp2;
class Program
{
static void Main(string[] args)
{
try {
throw new IndexOutOfRangeException();
}
catch (Exception e) {
Console.WriteLine(e);
}
PrintText();
}
static void PrintText()
{
Console.WriteLine("A sample function invocation.");
}
}
The CLR exception "Index Out Of Range" is handled by the catch clause, which means the debugger will not suspend the program on this line by default.
But if the exception type is configured as "suspend execution" explicitly, Rider debugger will still suspend on this exception type. It's a "handled exception".
Breakpoint dependency could be configured across different types. For example, the breakpoint on Line 13 will be ignored with the following settings.
