Cannot type or edit text normally in Rider: Cursor only navigates without editing

Symptoms

• Unable to type or edit text in files within Rider.
• Cursor moves but does not allow text input or modification.
• Cannot edit selected text

Cause

This behavior occurs when the VIM emulation plugin is enabled in Rider. The IdeaVim plugin is intended to provide an experience similar to the vim editor, which has its own very special key bindings. This can prevent normal typing if the user is unfamiliar with VIM commands.

Resolution

Disable the IdeaVIM plugin in Rider:

1. Open File | Settings (Ctrl+Alt+S) on Windows/Linux or Rider | Preferences (Cmd+,) on macOS.
2. Navigate to Plugins.
3. Search for IdeaVim in the installed plugins list.
4. Uncheck or disable the plugin.
