Problem
When attempting to debug unit tests, the test run fails with tests assuming Inconclusive status. The following exception can be observed:
Exception Details:System.InvalidOperationException
HResult=0x80131509
Message=Dependency resolution failed for component C:\Users\***\.nuget\packages\mstest.testadapter\3.6.2\build\_common
with error code -2147450734. Detailed error: Failed to locate managed application
When running tests without debugging, they run successfully.
Cause
When debugging with CLR exception breakpoints enabled, the framework throws some of the exceptions that should be normally suppressed (e.g. assertions) when attempting to debug with CLR exception breakpoints enabled. This leads to Rider or R# breaking on these exceptions.
Resolution
Rider:
- Open Run | View Breakpoints and Exceptions...
- Disable CLR Exception Breakpoints
Visual studio + ReSharper
- Open Debug | Windows | Exception Settings
- Right-click Common Language Runtime Exceptions, select Restore Defaults
