Problem
iOS simulators are not available in the dropdown menu of Rider. Even after attempting various steps such as reinstallation, clearing caches, and resetting components, the issue persists. The simulators work fine in Xcode but not in Rider. When simulators are opened in the Xcode, they are opening with error or booting indefinitely.
Resolution
Recreate the simulators manually in Xcode, for this:
-
Open Xcode > Devices and Simulators.
-
Delete existing simulators that fail to boot.
-
Add new simulators based on the required format and configurations.
-
Ensure the new simulators boot successfully in Xcode.
-
Go to File > Invalidate Caches in Rider.
-
Restart Rider after clearing the caches.
-
Verify simulator detection in Rider: Check the dropdown menu for available simulators after recreating them in Xcode.
If the issue persists, use the Xcode tools for device management command line and ensure that no errors appear during these operations.
xcrun simctl list devices
xcrun simctl erase all
xcrun simctl delete all
xcode-select --install
