How to disable or modify pop-up notifications for NuGet package updates

How can I disable the update prompt for a NuGet package when using the IDE interface? The pop-up appears on top of everything and doesn't disappear for a long time, which is disruptive:

This is a tool window notification in the IDE. You can disable it or change its behavior by following these steps:

1. Navigate to Settings | Appearance & Behavior | Notifications.
2. Type NuGet to filter the notifications.
