Problem
When working on a .NET MVVM Avalonia application in JetBrains Rider, the solution window fails to display files, and any files opened close unexpectedly at random times. Building the solution still works, but the issue affects usability. Additionally, the preview window displays errors like "preview not available for this project."
Cause
The project is stored on a OneDrive-synced folder. OneDrive continuously syncs files, generating frequent file system events that Rider detects. These events cause the project hierarchy to become unstable, detaching files and resulting in the solution window issues. The issue is further compounded by CyberArk Endpoint Management and Avalonia previewer plugin blocking the UI thread.
Resolution
To resolve the issue, follow these steps:
-
Move the project to a local, non-synced folder:
- Example:
C:\dev\UMCSimulator. Working from a local folder eliminates conflicts caused by OneDrive file system events.
- Example:
-
If moving the project is not possible:
- Pause OneDrive sync while working in Rider.
- Exclude the project folder from OneDrive sync through OneDrive Settings > Manage Backup.
-
Coordinate with your IT team to exclude the project folder from CyberArk real-time scanning:
- This reduces additional file system activity that exacerbates the issue.
-
Optionally, disable the Avalonia previewer plugin:
- Navigate to Settings > Plugins, search for "AvaloniaRider," and disable it. This can minimize UI blocking caused by the plugin.
By implementing these steps, the Rider environment should stabilize, and the problem should be resolved.
