Problem
Default file headers in Rider are overridden when StyleCop is enabled in File | Preferences | Editor | Code Style | Enable StyleCop support, and custom headers set in the File | Preferences | Editor | File Header Template are not applied.
Cause
StyleCop enforces its own rules for file headers, disregarding custom configurations provided through Rider settings
Resolution
To customize file headers when StyleCop is enabled:
-
Create a
stylecop.jsonfile: Place thestylecop.jsonfile in the same directory as the.csprojfile of the project.Example content for
stylecop.json:{ "$schema": "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/DotNetAnalyzers/StyleCopAnalyzers/master/StyleCop.Analyzers/StyleCop.Analyzers/Settings/stylecop.schema.json", "settings": { "documentationRules": { "companyName": "Your Company Name Inc.", "copyrightText": "Copyright (c) Your Company Name. All rights reserved." } } } -
Include
stylecop.jsonin the.csprojfile: Add the following lines to the.csprojfile to ensure it is recognized:<ItemGroup> <AdditionalFiles Include="stylecop.json" /> </ItemGroup> -
Result: After completing these steps, the file headers will reflect the custom settings defined in
stylecop.json.
This method ensures that StyleCop applies the desired file header template consistently throughout the project.
