Cannot use dottrace.exe from Rider's installation for command-line profiling 'JetBrains.Platform.Core' is missing

Problem

The dottrace.exe executable included with JetBrains Rider installation cannot be used for profiling directly from the command line because it is missing required dependencies. Attempting to run it from the terminal, the error below appears:

Cause

The dottrace.exe provided in the Rider directory is intended to be used in conjunction with the Rider IDE and is not designed for standalone execution. Using it directly requires dependencies that are not included in its installation.

Resolution

To utilize DotTrace functionality from the command line, use one of the following methods:

1. Install the Dedicated Command Line Tools: Download and install the dedicated DotTrace Command Line Tools from the official JetBrains website: DotTrace Command Line Tools.

2. Install the Global JetBrains DotTrace Tool using NuGet: Run the following command to install the JetBrains.dotTrace.GlobalTools package:

   dotnet tool install --global JetBrains.dotTrace.GlobalTools
   

This will install the necessary tool for command-line profiling along with its required dependencies.
