Problem
When using JetBrains Rider with Unity, the IDE repeatedly reinitializes asset references and reindexes them every time Unity switches between play mode and edit mode.
Cause [Optional]
This behavior is caused by the automatic refresh of Unity asset references being enabled in Rider's settings. Each mode change in Unity prompts Rider to refresh and re-index assets.
Resolution
To resolve the issue of constant reinitialization by Rider when switching modes in Unity:
- Open Rider.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Go to Languages & Frameworks > Unity Engine.
- Locate the setting for automatic Unity asset refresh and disable this feature.
For managing asset refresh thereafter, you can follow Rider's guidelines on manual refresh triggers or assign specific triggers based on your development workflow. Refer to the official Rider documentation for more information: Trigger Refresh in Unity Editor.
By adjusting these settings, you can avoid unnecessary and time-consuming reinitialization while still maintaining control over asset updates.
