Environment variables are not available for an application in Rider on macOS

Issue

When Rider executes or debugs an application, most environment variables from the default macOS Terminal with Zsh (the terminal shell) are not available in the application context.

Cause

The behaviour is expected. Rider uses common for all shells environment variables.

Zsh uses its own environment variables set, which is different from the system-wide configuration.

Resolution

There are two available solutions:

1. Set required environment variables in the Rider run configuration. See the document for more information.
2. Set the required environment variable as system-wide. Here is a third-party article with an example of the implementation
