Question
Do the Rider DB tools provide a full replacement for the features available for this in VS, such as publish .dacpac to database?
Answer
Rider does not provide full replacement for DB tools in VS. Users can open and build SQL project, but unable to create SQL project and publish .dacpac to database. Our developer team is working to fill this gap, but no ETA yet. There are known feature requests for this:
- SQL Server Project Support: option to publish database projects to SQL Server
- SQL Server Project Support: option to add SQL Server projects to solution
- SQL Server Project Support: option to import into a database project
- SQL Server Project Support: Support new cross-platform SDK (Microsoft.Build.Sql) for SQL Server projects
- SQL Server Project Support: option to run code analysis in SQL files
What we offer so far is that users can compare and update database schemas. Note, it only works on Windows and requires Visual Studio 2017 or later to be installed.
