How to use Claude Subscription in Air in JetBrains IDEs

Question

Can I use OAuth (login/password) authentication for Claude Agent (a.k.a. Claude subscription) in JetBrains Air?

Answer

Yes, but at the moment, Claude subscription can only be used in Terminal mode - NOT in Chat/GUI mode.

Reason

Anthropic terms do not allow SDK integration (Chat/GUI mode) for Claude subscription usage. More information and discussion about it can be found in this ticket.

How to switch Claude Session to Terminal Mode

1. Click the dropdown arrow next to New Session and select Manage Agents...

   

2. Select Terminal to use the Claude Code CLI agent.

   

3. Start a New Claude Session.

4. If you see Sonnet 5.5 Claude Pro (or your subscription plan) in the terminal, then you are all set:

   

   If you prefer not to type directly in the terminal, press Ctrl twice to open a prompt popup. It automatically gathers context for your request as well:
