Problem
The MicroPython plugin cannot be installed in PyCharm 2024.3 or later, and existing installations no longer receive updates. Plugin features (REPL, file upload, device detection) stop working after upgrading PyCharm.
Cause
The MicroPython plugin is deprecated. Its latest release, 1.4.6, was published in August 2024 and only supports IDE versions up to 2024.2. The plugin's source repository is archived and unmaintained.
Resolution
Install the MicroPython Tools plugin instead. It is the replacement recommended on the MicroPython plugin's Marketplace page and is actively maintained. The plugin requires PyCharm 2024.3 or newer; its latest versions require PyCharm 2025.2 or newer.
MicroPython Tools is a third-party plugin, not developed or supported by JetBrains. Report problems with it to the plugin's issue tracker.
Staying on the original MicroPython plugin is possible only with PyCharm 2024.2 or earlier.
