Jupyter Notebook render as JSON/text file in PyCharm

Problem:

Jupyter Notebook files (.ipynb) display as JSON/text instead of the standard Notebook UI in PyCharm.

Cause:

The following can be seen on idea.log:

Module intellij.notebooks.visualization is not enabled because dependency org.intellij.plugins.markdown is not available

The required bundled Markdown plugin is disabled. This plugin is necessary for the intellij.notebooks.visualization module to function correctly and render the Notebook UI.

Resolution

1. Open PyCharm
2. Navigate to Settings | Plugins and locate the Markdown plugin.
3. Enable the bundled Markdown plugin.
4. Restart PyCharm to apply the changes.
